The anode rod is the most important factor in determining the life of your water heater. The magnesium of the anode is less noble than the steel of the tank meaning it will corrode instead of your tank.

Normally an anode rod will last you 4-5 years, if you are using water with a high mineral content the lifespan will be shorter.

Instructions:  Inspect your anode rod on regular basis. If more than 75% of it has degraded replace it with a new anode rod. If your anode rod has fallen off remove it from your tank immediately.
